Promoting Regulatory Innovation
Mr. Watt, a green energy retailer selling green energy sourced from low-impact rooftop solar photovoltaic systems, has gained the attention of L'Oréal (Taiwan Branch) to seek the possibility of contracting a power purchase agreement.
This led to collaboration with Taipei 101, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology & Inspection (BSMI) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs(MOEA), the Bureau of Energy(BOE), and Taipower Company's distribution units. Through discussions and feasibility studies, they devised a way for tenants without electricity meters, which are possessed by the building owners (Taipei 101 in this case), to purchase green energy through agreements and mutual audits by various regulatory authorities. This initiative benefits the carbon reduction efforts in the urban services industry, establishing Taiwan's current 'Single Electricity Account, Multiple Users' electricity supply mechanism."
